“I started off writing about a specific person who turned out to be a completely different person I thought they were when I met them. I left the song to sit for a few months, and the meaning completely changed for me. It went from being a song about a person, to a song about my relationship with mental health. ‘Friends Now’ is about being at odds with your brain, and wanting nothing more than to be okay with yourself when going through turbulent times. I love that the song can be read as both a ‘self vs. person’ and ‘self vs. self’ way depending on how you're feeling.” - Former Hero
